1. Introduction
|
|
Dear VE-FORUM Member,
We are glad to inform you on the latest news and important developments of our VE-Forum community portal. The portal and community services were seed-funded since October 2003 through a project funded by the European Commission. This project has come to an end in December 2006, but VE-Forum continues strongly. The project leaves behind the established ground of our Community Portal Platform, meaning among others:
- about 4700 members from 127 countries,
- 13 projects hosted and 25 active workgroups,
VE-Forum has seen a smooth transition and since January 2007 is operating in an autonomous and self-sustainable “open science community”.
As community we can report that the Portal Platform has been secured for the future through an agreement with its new commercial provider VEA bv.
VEA is a Dutch registered company, with 8 employees’, focusing its activities in technology developments and service provision. With Ide Beijersbergen-Evren as CEO (see her profile on the VE-Forum homepage), and Juerg Amrein as CTO - he has already been the head behind the technology so far -, VEA brings together competencies and solutions that before were provided by separate entities and now they will act as the full technical support out of one hand. We are especially happy that commercial demand for the technical platform will give stable revenues for its continuous development and operation. VEA is committed to cooperate with VE-Forum and its challenging requirements as input for further technology developments and innovation. All in all this constitutes a major milestone and critical contribution for the sustainable future of our community collaboration platform.
We hope that you will all enjoy these new developments and, for sure, on your daily practice, show your strong interest by using all portal facilities and knowledge, bringing your individual inputs or contributions, promoting our Portal to your colleagues, and, last but not least, choosing our platform for your future project websites and workspaces. |
2. Free Workspaces for Proposal Preparation
|
|
Many of you are heavily involved in proposal preparations for the first calls of the new Framework Programme - FP7 - of the EU, or for some national programme. Maybe you find it very difficult to coordinate all your proposal activities just through Email, instead of a common place for document storage and version management, discussions, or task management.
As an "open science community", VE-Forum has the goal to support new initiatives in the wider domain of virtual organisations, networks and collaboration. We therefore offer free workspaces for proposal preparation, of course these are completely private and only accessible to your proposal team.
The idea is like a generation contract: Successful proposals continue to use VE-Forum for public dissemination and engagement with the community, and/or for project-internal collaboration and coordination - and contribute a small amount from the project budget towards the further upkeep of the platform. Some 10 projects from small roadmap proposal to large Integrated Project already used this service.
If you are interested, please contact Olivier Rérolle at (info@ve-forum.org) for more information or to be up and running in very short time.
