VE-Forum.org Newsletter May-2005

Dear All,

In this new edition of the newsletter we are glad to inform you about the latest developments of VE-Forum.

The major objective of VE-Forum is to offer a central forum or “cross-road” to all communities related to the VO domain; we therefore invite all who are active in related communities and projects – whether from academia, industry or service providers – to make use of the various opportunities provided by VE-Forum and to contribute to building a shared vision and knowledge basis in the domain.

We created a specific position of “Community Coach” and assigned this role to Olivier Rerolle, who joined CeTIM by beginning of 2005. Olivier shall help building new relationships between different communities and to users supporting broader exchange and collaboration. He has been active in the field since several years and has built considerable experience in practice, research and policy.

As examples, we have taken following actions during recent weeks:

·         Together with the ESoCE-Net community, we are building links to the AMI@work community family (www.mosaic-network.org ); the aim is to initiate exchange and synergies – starting with organising together the AMI@work Forum Day on Wednesday 22 June, as part of the ICE 2005 conference in Munich (June 20th -22nd); please visit: www.ice-conference.org

·         Parallel to the ICE 2005 conference, we are teaming with 2 further major events for our related communities: Bled 2005 and eChallenges 2005, please refer below to the “events” section.

·         We are initiating collaboration with the French association MICADO, which is focused on ICT for businesses and new working environments. MICADO has about 70 core members (industry, academia, solution providers) and 2000 subscribers. Starting as new member of their “Collaborative Work” committee, further cross-participations are under consideration (see: http://www.af-micado.com/default.asp?file=pg3-9_fr)

·         VE-Forum is supporting the 4 EU project clusters for Networked Businesses (Business networking, Digital ecosystem, AITPL, Interoperability) in their dissemination and collaboration: A dedicated web-space will go live during the next days, internal work spaces on VE-Forum are available, and Olivier is facilitating reflections on new strategies for better developing the European Research Area in the domain. This will be a considerable input for better sharing new “ICT for businesses” developments.

Of course, we will regularly inform you about the progress of these community coaching activities.

Last but not least, here are some key indicators of VE Forum site activity during the last 12 weeks:

·         Newly registered users:   301 (total: 1446)

·         Average number of visitors per week: 8960

·         Average number of document downloads per week: 1340

·         Most popular public areas (average visits per week during last month)

         Library: 570

         eJov: 270

         News & events:110

·         Most popular Interest Groups (average visits per week during last month)

We hope you will find this newsletter interesting and helpful.
